Call for IGA Postgraduate / Graduate Assistants

The International Gothic Association (IGA) and Gothic Studies seek 3 postgraduate/ graduate students to work with us as Membership Coordinator, Media Coordinator, and Assistant Editor. Deadline Monday 31 January 2022. All queries and applications to

These posts are open to applicants from any country; you do not need to be based in the UK. For all posts, you will need reliable internet access and appropriate mobile device(s), and good communication, IT, and teamwork skills. A small annual remuneration is associated with each post. 

You may apply for more than one post, although we will only appoint you to one. Please send a separate application for each post, with the post title included in the email subject line.

Applications for each post will be reviewed by a panel drawn from the IGA Exec and Gothic Studies editorial team. A shortlist of candidates will be invited for informal interviews in late February 2022.

1. Membership Coordinator

We seek an enthusiastic person to join the IGA administrative team. The coordinator will work closely with the IGA’s Executive Secretary to manage memberships and member queries. You will also liaise with the wider team that coordinates all of the IGA’S logistical operations, including the editorial team of Gothic Studies, the website and media officers, and conference organisers in the years when conferences are held. Previous administrative experience will be useful. 

2. Media Coordinator

We seek a media coordinator to support the IGA Executive with social media communications for the IGA and Gothic Studies. You will be familiar with common platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Your duties will include monitoring these accounts, posting and sharing relevant events, cfps, or announcements, and making IGA and journal-related announcements on behalf of the Exec (you may take on other duties, by agreement, as new IGA activities develop in the future). Experience of managing social media accounts would be an advantage, and you should be prepared to be on social media regularly (usually at least once a week). You will keep in regular contact with the IGA President(s) and journal Editor.

3. Assistant Editor

Gothic Studies, the journal of the International Gothic Associationseeks an assistant editor to join its editorial team. This role will suit a postgraduate/ graduate student working on the Gothic and interested in gaining experience of academic journal editing and publishing. Your main duty is the management of the journal’s article submission and peer-review process, including author and reviewer communications, and maintaining up-to-date records. You will also have opportunities to work with the rest of the editorial team on reviewing, decision-making, copy-editing, proof-reading, and promotion, depending on where your interests lie. You will report to the journal Editor.
